MADRID, Oct. 25 (.) –
The leader of the Conservative Party of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, received on Tuesday the formal commission from King Charles III to become the new prime minister, which allows him to complete the political transition after seven weeks of Liz Truss’ mandate.
Sunak thus becomes the 57th prime minister in the country’s history, the second in the current reign, and the youngest to hold the post in the last two centuries. He will be Downing Street’s third tenant this year, following a brief internal selection process.
Truss announced his resignation on Thursday of last week and only Sunak obtained the one hundred necessary guarantees from his fellow ‘Tories’ in the House of Commons. In the next few hours he will announce the names that will make up the new cabinet and, according to the BBC, no changes are expected in the Ministry of Finance, where Jeremy Hunt is expected to continue.
