Jair Bolsonaro ignores political crime in full campaign

Machine them. With the murder of the militant of the Workers’ Party (PT) Claudio Arruda in Foz de Iguazú at the hands of a Jair Bolsonaro fanatic, the campaign towards the october presidential election in which it will be decided whether or not Brazil fully recovers democracy.

the killer is Jorge Jose Guaranhoa federal prison officer who used to imitate the far-right president putting the index fingers and thumb in the form of pistols. That was the icon of the 2018 Bolsonaro campaign. In a photo, Guaranho is underwater, apparently in a swimming pool, playing at being the captain-president with his hands turned into imaginary weapons.

Last Saturday night, Guaranho broke into Arruda’s birthday for the second time, this time carrying a real weapon in the Foz de Iguazú party hall promising to kill every petista (PT supporters) that crosses his path because in that red land of the Triple Frontier the one in charge is Bolsonaro and not Lula. And materialized his fantasies. He unloaded three shots that ended the life of Arrudawho was celebrating his 50th birthday that day with a beard like that of the PT militants, with incipient gray hair.

He was the treasurer of the party at the municipal level, he used to wear shirts with Lula’s face, surely to seek votes for the October 2 elections. Before die arrudawho was a municipal guard, managed to repel the attack and wounded Guaranhowho is still logged in.

“A fight between two drunken men”

Where does the president’s responsibility in this political crime begin and how far does it go? Bolsonaro ignored the issue this Monday at the Planalto Palace, alleging that what happened in Foz de Iguazú was a fight between two drunken men with no connection to the Brazilian government.

“I have nothing to do with it, they want to criminalize me as if I were responsible for the hatred in Brazil,” says Bolsonaro

“I have nothing to do with it, they want to criminalize me all the time as if I were responsible for the hatred in Brazil,” he replied to a group of journalists from which more questions arose. One was about one of his 2018 campaign speeches when he proposed “machine-gunning” the PT members by carrying a camera tripod turned into a simulated weapon (or an imaginary one like those of the Guaranho penitentiary).

The speech in favor of murder as a political weapon remained a Bolsonaro’s tool since his arrival in government in 2019. That tactic was reinforced this year with frequent comments inciting a rebellion if Lula were elected in three months, as all the polls predict.

Last Thursday, he spoke of that uprising, launching some suggestive phrases (“you know what to do”) during his usual live broadcast on social networks. That call recalled that of September 7, 2021, Independence Day, when there was a failed self-coup attempt by mobilizing thousands of protesters in Brasilia and São Paulo, and the threat of invading the Supreme Court of Justice following the format of the Assault on the US Capitol.

This Monday the vice president, Hamilton Mourao, was in the same line as the president minimizing the crime of the PT militant as a drunken case. Y proposed an impunity pact for “close this coffin” and look forward.

The PT considers that before Bolsonaro’s speech on murder as a political weapon there should be measures

The proposals of the president and his second in command did not convince GLeisi Hoffmannthe head of the PT who came to San Pablo for a meeting with Lula after attending the militant’s wake in the southern town of the Triple Frontier. “Bolsonaro cannot continue giving their messages on their live shows on Thursdays and encourage people to commit acts of violence.

During the PT meeting in São Paulo, in which all the member parties of the coalition that supports Lula’s candidacy participated, they analyzed how to legally typify the conduct of the president. Cristiano Zanin Martins, the defense attorney for the PT leader in the ‘Lava Jato’ case, was at the meeting.

Hoffman announced that the party will request the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), whose head is Judge Edson Fachin, to adopt measures to curb incitement to violence and make it possible for Bolsonaro to be denounced.

Assault on the Capitol

Last week, Brazilian magistrate Fachin offered a conference in Washington where he reported that events similar or “worse” to those of the Capitol invaded by supporters of Donald Trump in January 2021 may occur in his country.

While the Brazilian situation in the United States was being debated, in Rio de Janeiro a kind of Molotov cocktail was thrown against a public act of Lula, inside which there were excrements.

The point is that Lula was forced to lead the concentration with a bulletproof vest and in the PT they analyze measures to strengthen your security in the face of the risk of new attacks, surely arising from organic or autonomous groups of Bolsonarism.

Meanwhile, a son of the president, Carlos Bolsonaro, remained in Washington where a suggestive photo was taken, next to the Capitol, posted on social networks.
