The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has thanked the EU for “unblocking” the 18,000 million euros in macro-financial aid for 2023, in a conversation with the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, in which he has advocated accelerating application of the new package of sanctions against Russia.

Zelenski, who will speak again on Thursday during the meeting of heads of state and government, has also applauded the agreement between the Twenty-seven to increase the European Mechanism for Peace with 2,000 million euros, a key instrument to supply weapons to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president and the President of the Council have also spoken about the implementation of the “recommendations” of the Commission for Ukraine to continue advancing on its European path and, according to Zelenski, they have “coordinated further steps” to move towards full integration . Ukraine has had the status of a candidate country since June.
