WhatsApp users will be able to hide their phone number from other members of a group chat

MADRID, Aug. 8 (Portaltic/EP) –

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow Android users to hide their phone number when they are part of a group of the messaging application.

Currently, to use WhatsApp it is necessary to have a telephone number, which appears by default in the contact information section, along with other features and settings, such as muting or customizing notifications for that user.

This also happens in groups, where participants are mentioned who, if they are not saved in the device’s address book or on the SIM card, below of previously stored contacts.

Now the company is developing a new option that will allow users who are part of a WhatsApp group the ability to hide their phone number, as WABetaInfo warned in a recent update released through the Google Play Beta Program.

This novelty is part of version 2.22.17.23 of the beta for Android, which displays a new section to configure privacy and stop showing this information to other platform users.

As this portal has pointed out, this option will be disabled by default, which means that the phone number will be hidden immediately for all members when they join a party. However, this data can be shared with other subgroups of the application.

At the moment it is unknown if this option will reach the official version of the platform for the operating system developed by Apple, iOS, and when it will become official for the rest of Android users.

It should be remembered that the company has implemented changes in WhatsApp groups, with features that include the ability to create groups of up to 512 people, upload files of up to 2GB or react to messages with ’emojis’.
