There is good news for Indians. The United States of America (USA) has recently made a special announcement regarding work permit. Thousands of Indians are going to benefit from this. Especially those people who are waiting for American green card. According to Hindustan Times news, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has said that it will provide employment authorization cards to certain non-immigrant categories, including people who have been waiting for a green card for five years.
Have to apply for employment authority
According to the news, US Immigration Services has extended the maximum validity period of Employment Authorization Documents (EAD) to five years for initial and renewal EADs for certain non-citizens who must apply for employment authorization. The federal agency said on Sept. 27 that these would include asylum seekers or applications seeking a stay of removal, change of status, and applications to suspend deportation or cancel removal.
Why did America take this step?
The United States has said that it is extending the validity of work permits to reduce the backlog of new applications received, including updating Employment Authorization Documents (EAD). That said, the purpose of extending the maximum EAD validity period to 5 years is to significantly reduce the number of people applying for new Form I-765, Employment Authorization, that we receive for renewal over the next several years, which Contributes to our efforts to reduce associated processing times and backlogs.
Green card backlog at record level
The employment-based green card backlog in the US reached a record 1.8 million cases this year. A green card, or permanent resident card, is a document that gives immigrants the right to live in the US permanently. More than 10 lakh green cards are issued annually in the country, but only 7% of them can be allotted to a particular company.
Thousands of Indians will benefit
This step taken by America is going to especially benefit those thousands of Indians who are waiting for employment-based green card in America. A study in September revealed that more than 10.5 lakh Indians are in line for employment-based green cards in the country. Of these, 4 lakh may die before getting permanent residence documents in America. According to the news, Chinese applicants faced a wait time of 17 years, while the waiting period for applicants from Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala is much longer.
