Latest on the war in Ukraine
MADRID, Dec. 12 (.) –
The Ukrainian Prime Minister, Denis Shmigal, has placed this Monday at 1,000 million dollars (about 950 million euros) the necessary assistance so that the country can repair the electrical system and the heating network, seriously affected by the Russian attacks against the country.
Shmigal has indicated that “to fully recover the country’s electrical system, 500 million dollars (about 475 million euros) are needed in emergency aid, while to restore the heating sector, another 500 million dollars are needed.”
Thus, he regretted that the latest attacks perpetrated by Russian forces against energy infrastructure have caused “half of these systems to be damaged” throughout the country, according to the Ukrinform news agency.
These damages have led to the “destabilization of the electrical system and the need to carry out scheduled and unscheduled cuts in supply,” an issue that “affects all sectors of the economy and social life in Ukraine.”
“If we talk about the general assessment of recovery needs, at the beginning of September the World Bank, the European Commission and the Government presented a report with the first conclusions in this regard,” he asserted.
In total, it is estimated that until June 1, 2022, funds valued at 349 million dollars (330 million euros) were necessary, although previous reports set this figure at around 500 million.
“Ukraine already needs help. I ask you, friends, to give us the urgent assistance we need for recovery. We are aware that we have to prove that we meet the European criteria and standards to join as a full member and we are determined to act.” “, he has pointed out.
