UEFA Europa Conference League Qualification: Torpedo eliminated Sarajevo

Sarajevo football players failed to qualify for the second round of the UEFA Europa Conference League, reports Anadolu.

In tonight’s return match of the first round at the “Asim Ferhatović Hase – Koševo” Olympic Stadium in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Bosnia and Herzegovina team was defeated by Torpedo from Georgia after a penalty shootout (1:1 after 90 minutes of play and extra time, 2:4 on penalties).

“Bordeaux” team took the lead in the 12th minute. After a great action, Kyeremeh employed captain Ziljkić, who is doing well and sends the ball into the visitors’ net from the top of the box – 1:0.

The home team were better throughout the match, had a handful of chances and when it seemed that the match would end with a minimal triumph for the Bosnians, in the first minute of stoppage time, Torpedo equalized. After the break, Gigouri is the highest in the jump and sends the ball into the undefended part of the net for 1:1 and extra time.

Sarajevo dominated in extra time as well, but even then it did not take advantage of the opportunities, so it was decided to take penalty kicks.

Goalkeeper Torpeda Kljajić saved shots from Ikić and Beganović, while the Georgians scored all four for 4:2 in the penalty shootout and the final triumph.

Torpedo will play in the second qualifying round against Aktobe from Kazakhstan on July 27 and August 3.

The football players of Željezničar from Sarajevo earlier today in the rematch of the first round of the same competition in Baku (Azerbaijan) defeated the Belarusian Dinamo Minsk, with a score of 2:1. With a total score of 4:3, coach Nermin Bašić’s team qualified for the second round, where they will have Nefči from Azerbaijan as their opponent. The first match will be played at Sarajevo’s “Grbavica” stadium next Thursday, July 27, while the return match is on August 3 in Baku.

The third representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the UEFA Europe Conference League, Borac from Banja Luka will play against Austria from Vienna in the second qualifying round. The first match is in the Austrian capital on July 27, the second leg seven days later in Banja Luka.
