Turkiye: Azerbaijani teams rescued 37 people, including eight children

Azerbaijani rescuers have pulled out at least 37 people, including eight children, in Turkey’s Kahramanmaras region, the epicenter of two strong earthquakes that shook Turkey on Monday, Anadolia reported on Thursday.

“As a result of the search and rescue operations… 37 people, including eight children, were found alive, and the bodies of 145 people were recovered and handed over to the authorities,” the Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations (FHN) said in a statement.

The announcement also states that additional information on the progress of the operations will be provided in due course.

At least 725 Azerbaijani rescuers have traveled to Turkey to help with search and rescue operations following the country’s earthquake.

“Azerbaijan has sent seven planes with personnel and humanitarian aid to Turkey since Monday,” according to the state news agency Azertac.

On Wednesday, 20 humanitarian aid trucks were sent to Turkiye for earthquake victims, with tents, beds, generators, clothes, tables, chairs, towels and other necessities.

At least 12,873 people died and 62,937 were injured after two strong earthquakes shook southern Turkey on Monday, the Emergency Situations Administration (AFAD) announced.

Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6, with the epicenter in Kahramanmaras province, affected ten provinces and more than 13 million people.

At least 2,802 people have been killed and 5,035 injured in Syria after a series of powerful earthquakes hit Turkey.
