MADRID, July 6. (.) –

The Government of Turkey has renewed the extradition requests to Sweden and Finland on members of “terrorist groups”, in a formality that tests the agreement signed by the three countries on the eve of the NATO leaders’ summit held in Madrid .

The Minister of Justice, Bekir Bozdag, confirmed this Wednesday that Ankara has once again sent extradition requests against people linked to groups such as the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) or the movement of the cleric Fethulá Gulen, accused of the coup attempt. from 2016.

Bozdag recalled that, until now, the two Nordic countries had not responded affirmatively to any request of this type, but now he hopes that the situation will change by virtue of the three-way agreement signed last week, according to the newspaper ‘Hurriyet’.

Said memorandum commits the Swedes and Finns to take into account the extradition requests presented by the Turkish authorities, without going into specific details. However, the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, stated in Madrid that only Sweden had already promised to send 73 suspects.

Erdogan warned that compliance with the agreement is a ‘sine qua non’ condition for Turkey and Sweden to continue advancing in their integration into NATO. Both countries signed protocols for joining the Alliance on Tuesday, but final membership depends on ratification by each of the 30 member states separately, including Turkey.
