The Ministry of the Interior of the self-proclaimed Moldovan Republic of Transnistria (RMT) reported this Tuesday about a shooting near the town of Kolbasna. This region keeps a large stockpile of weapons and ammunition from the Soviet era, guarded by a Russian military contingent. The Ministry has not reported casualties.
Near Kolbasna is a weapons arsenal that stores 20,000 tons of ammunition
“Last night, several drones were seen in the sky over the town of Kolbasna in the Ribnitsky region; the devices were launched from Ukraine,” the department said in a statement posted on social media. The message also details that the morning of Wednesday, April 27, around 8:45 a.m.“shots were fired from the Ukrainian side in the direction of the Kolbasna settlement.”
The presidency of the RMT explained that at the beginning of the week “there were three terrorist attacks in Transnistria“. “They fired grenade launchers at the building of the Ministry of State Security; there were two explosions in the radio-television center of the town of Maiak and they also attacked a military unit in Parcani.”
From the pro-Russian separatist region of Moldova, in the capital of Tiraspol, President Vadim Krasnoselski pointed to Ukraine as possibly responsible for the attacksof which no casualties have been reported.
destabilize the situation
The response of his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelensky, has been clear. The president considers that Russia tries to destabilize the delicate situation that crosses the Moldovan separatist region to promote, therefore, the entry of its troops into the area.
The Transnistria region is separated from the other part of Moldova by the Dniester River. On the other side is a Russian peacekeeping force for the war that broke out in 1992, which shares more than 400 kilometers with Ukraine. The Moldovan pro-Russian enclave awaits more than 20,000 tons of weapons stored by the Soviet Army since the end of the Cold War.
