Tony Nadalthe new signing of Núñez Feijóo to occupy the new foundation of the Popular Party, Reformismo21, has stated, along the same lines as other personalities linked to the Popular Party, that “we live in a society with less freedom than thirty years ago“.
“I, who lived through the last years of Francoism, there are people who do the same as then,” snapped the new trick of the popular in an interview for Última Hora. “We live in a society where a group of people tries to constantly protect us on how we have to speak, how we should act, what seems right and wrong to us… And I would like to live in a society where I can exercise my responsibility and where my freedom is not restricted,” said Nadal.
Like other personalities related to the Popular Party, Toni Nadal had an impact, mainly, on the freedom of expression and “censorship” of people who, according to his criteria, “are not the most prepared, precisely”. “When you know that if you express your opinion they are going to shoot you down, people tend to self-censor,” to which he would add: “They are people who defend freedom if you think the same as them. I would like to live in a society where they don’t tell me what what I have to do, that they don’t regulate everything and they don’t impose their criteria on me”.
This response is closely linked to recent statements by different personalities who have shown their sympathy for the leadership of Isabel Diaz Ayuso in the Community of Madrid, as Mario Vaquerizowho affirmed that “there is less freedom than in other times”, comparing the times of now with the repression in the Franco dictatorship, where “you cannot say what you think”.
Others, like Miguel Bosehave shown in prime time his discontent because “in the Transition we had many more freedoms than now”. “That constitutional right that protects us to express ourselves and think freely […] It had disappeared, like many others have disappeared today,” said the singer, who has come into controversy many times over his statements about covid-19 and government control.
