Three police officers are kidnapped in Puerto Bolívar, in the midst of a state of emergency

Three motorized police officers were kidnapped on the night of this Monday, January 8, in the Puerto Bolívar parish of the Machala canton, province of El Oro. This occurs in the midst of a state of emergency declared by President Daniel Noboa, which includes a curfew of six hours.

What is preliminarily known is that eight subjects with their faces covered, carrying short and long weapons, entered the Community Police Unit (UPC) and subdued the uniformed officers.

In addition to attacking the police, the antisocials dragged them to a dock to force them to get on a boat with the aim of taking them to an estuary, according to local media.

This led to a quick operation by the police and military. Residents of the area reported gunshots.

As of the closing of this note, the National Police or authorities of other entities have not commented on the matter.
