MADRID, May 5. (Portaltic/EP) –
The Adventures of Guybrush Threepwood Y zombie pirate LeChuck has a new delivery in Return to Monkey Islandfrom the creator of the first games, but with a different art style, based on animation and not pixels like Thimbleweed Park.
The Pixel art, or pixel-based, style of the first two Monkey Island will not be repeated in the new title, a fact that has been known since the return of the saga by Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman was announced. .
Gilbert has delved into the style of the game in a new installment on his personal blog, Grumpy gamer, where he has clarified that actually Monkey Island 1 and 2 weren’t ‘pixel art’ but in them the technologies and the avant-garde art of the moment were used.
“Monkey Island 1 was EGA 16 colors and we took the opportunity to update it to 256 colors. Monkey Island 2 featured the scan art magic of Peter Chan and Steve Purcell and we strive to keep moving forward with everything,” he explains.
Gilbert claims that only has made one pixel art game in his entire career, Thimbleweed Park. And that in case of having made the third installment of Monkey Island in Lucasfilm “it would not look like Monkey Island 2”.
Neither he nor Grossman wanted to make a retro game, a game that was “throwback”, as many articles referred to Thimbleweed Park. “I wanted the art in Return to Monkey Island to be provocative, shocking and not what everyone was expecting“, Add.
“Return to Monkey Island may not have the art style you want or are hoping for but it is the artistic style that I want”, he concludes in his blog.
