MADRID, Dec. 17 (Portaltic / EP) –
Telefónica Tech and Ecoembes have collaborated on a pioneering innovative project in the recycling sector, creating some smart yellow containers that they have a ring with sensors that recognizes the barcode on the container and identifies what type of waste is deposited inside them, thus allowing users to be rewarded.
These rings are connected through the 5G Narrow Band connectivity provided by Telefónica Tech, which makes the readings possible and transmits them to platforms where the data is managed. In this way, it is possible to obtain the traceability of packaging deposited, which allows collecting relevant data such as what type of waste has been deposited, in what area, at what time or frequency of use.
The project includes a part of reward to the citizen That can be identified, if you have previously logged into the webapp, and achieving a series of points (tokens) when recycling that can be redeemed later to obtain environmental incentives or donate them to causes of a social nature. If you decide to recycle anonymously, the tokens obtained are not lost, but are added to a generic account that can also be used for social associations. This entire process is certified through ‘blockchain’ technology.
This Recycling Refund and Reward System (SDR) is present in all the autonomous communities and, with the arrival of these new smart yellow containers, it takes another step towards the recycling of the future. The municipality of Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona) already has 16 connected containers, which serve as a pilot experience, since Ecoembes has the ambition to take it to more town councils in Spain.
SUPPORT FOR THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
“With this collaboration with Ecoembes we enable accessible and sustainable technology for public administrations to facilitate recycling and thus support the circular economy“said Elena Gil, Global Director of Products and Business Operations at Telefónica Tech.
For his part, Manuel de Arcocha, Director of Technology at Ecoembes, pointed out that with the smart yellow container “The current reward recycling system is technologically revolutionized“.” This leap allows us to face the new challenges and legislative objectives set from Spain and Europe to move towards the much-needed circular economy, “he added.
The integration of this technology in the containers has been carried out through the collaboration of ‘The Thinx’, a Telefónica Tech laboratory where companies can test their own production models based on the Internet of Things (IoT).
The technological rings installed in them have solar batteries and 5G Narrow Band (NB-IoT) technology, that allows to extend the durability of the batteries and a notable improvement in energy consumption in the wireless transmission of information, as well as an increase in the capacity of the system and spectral efficiency.
