There are already 31 dead and more than 300,000 displaced by typhoon ‘Rai’ in the Philippines

MANILA, Dec 18 (DPA / EP) –

Typhoon ‘Rai’, also known as ‘Odette’, has left at least 31 dead in the Philippines, most in Cebu province, and more than 300,000 displaced, according to the latest balance provided by the National Council for Risk Reduction and Philippine Disaster Management (NDRRMC).

In the last hours, four more fatalities have been included. The region with the most deaths is Cebu, with 16 deaths, followed by Negros Oriental (5 dead) and Bohol (5 dead).

There are also deaths in Guimaras (2) and Ilo Ilo, Negros Occidental and Bukdidnon (one in each province).

Five million people have been without electricity throughout the country due to the passage of the typhoon, which has caused significant damage in the Visayas islands and in Minadanao.

For his part, the governor of Negros Occidental, Eugenio Jose ‘Bong’ Lacson, indicated this Friday that the security forces are removing debris from the main roads in the region.
