The Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office does not assimilate the overwhelming victory that the unitary opposition candidate obtained this Sunday Maria Corina Machado and has announced the opening of an investigation into the “fraud” committed in the primary elections of the Venezuelan opposition.
“Revealing false participation figures in an electoral event that is not auditable, without guarantees of vote security, constitutes a fraud against the Constitution and the country,” said the Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saabas reported by the Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office on the social network X.
Saab has branded “bufo event” and “prop theater” the opposition elections and has announced that two prosecutors will handle the case, in which the president and vice president of the National Primary Commission, Jesús María Casa and Mildred Camero, respectively, appear as investigated.
“Since the primaries are an election of organizations with political purposes, we would be in the presence of a case of usurpation of electoral functions“, he noted, adding that “the organizers of the event” would have used “without consent the identity of numerous people” who did not ultimately go to the polls.
The investigation, which will be carried out after the complaint of deputy José Brito, will contribute, according to Saab, “to the stability” of Venezuela, as well as “to respect” for its institutions and “to law and democracy.” “We do not rule out calling witnesses to expand on those complaints made during that fraudulent event,” she added.
Supporters of the main Venezuelan opposition parties elected with 93% of support in the primary elections the Vente Venezuela candidate, María Corina Machado, as their “unitary” candidate against Chavismo for the 2024 presidential elections despite the fact that the Chavista regime disqualified her in 2015.
