The US Government receives the Venezuelan opposition and calls on Maduro to resume the dialogue

MADRID, Dec. 2 (.) –

The US State Department has hosted a new meeting with representatives of the Venezuelan opposition, a gesture of support that has also been accompanied by an appeal to the “regime” of Nicolás Maduro to resume the paralyzed dialogue in Mexico.

The Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, shared on her Twitter account on Thursday an image of the meeting she held on Wednesday with members of the Unitary Platform, which brings together the main opposition parties in Venezuela.

Nuland reiterated the “support” of the United States, while pointing out that he will continue on the side of “the fight for democracy” in Venezuela. In this sense, he believes that the dialogue, interrupted since mid-October, following the extradition of Alex Saab to the United States from Cape Verde, is “for the benefit of all Venezuelans.”

The United States was the first country to recognize the opposition Juan Guaidó as the legitimate president of Venezuela after his proclamation in January 2019 and, despite the change of tenant in the White House, support remains. In fact, the current US government has invited Guaidó to the Summit for Democracy next week, in which no representative of the Maduro administration will be there instead.

The main representative of Guaidó in the United States, Carlos Vecchio, considers that the invitation is “an opportunity for the world to recognize the courage and dignity of Venezuela”, which “fights to recover its democracy against the corrupt and criminal dictatorship of Maduro.”
