The socialist wing of the Government warns about the NATO summit after criticism from UP: “It is a very important appointment for Spain”

The differences between the socialist wing of the Government and United We Can on the NATO and the next summit in Madrid have starred in the usual press conference held in Moncloa after the Council of Ministers. spokeswoman Elizabeth Rodriguez has been flanked by the second vice president, Yolanda Diazand the Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzon. Both have not wanted to enter into direct dialectical confrontations for their positions. But from Moncloa a message has been launched reiterating the “strategic importance” of this appointment.

Rodríguez has reiterated that the summit, which will be held in the capital the next June 28 and 29, represents a milestone in the “commitment to democracy and peace” of the Government of Pedro Sánchez. “The acts are organized with the perspective of the president’s leadership. This appointment is very important because it affects the country’s reputation,” the spokesperson stressed.

For her part, Díaz has been asked on several occasions both for her absence at the event held this Monday at the Teatro Real and for her presence or not at the Madrid summit. Regarding this Monday, the vice president has indicated that she had some medical tests. “As soon as we know the agendas, we will communicate them,” has stood out on the appointment of June. This medium has published that he will not attend then either, although Díaz has not wanted to verbalize it publicly yet.

“East contract was approved in terms of legality in a Council of Ministers and the file is available, of course, to Spanish society, and I insist, it complies with all the legal requirements”, Díaz also said in reference to Podemos’s criticism of the contracts related to the summit , distancing himself from the purple force.

Garzón has highlighted that UI position and its history is known. When asked if he felt comfortable in a government so involved with NATO, he replied that “IU’s commitment is to the coalition agreement and that it is “comfortable” developing it. “I don’t even know what I’m going to do next week that is coming”, the Minister of Consumption ironized about his agenda for the end of June.

The relevance for Moncloa of the NATO acts was made clear at the press conference. Rodríguez, in fact, has started it by making a reference to them and to the 40th anniversary of the atlantic organization. “We are going to host this important summit that has historical significance. Spain is on the international agenda,” she stated.

Relations with NATO and the increase in military spending have made visible, especially since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the different positions within the coalition government. From Moncloa, according to government sources to Publichave not yet revealed the agendas planned for the summit and whether or not they will invite the UP ministers to participate.
