The PP will support the PSOE bill to abolish prostitution

The PP will support in the Congress of Deputies the PSOE’s proposed law on trafficking, according to the agency Europe Press. The socialist proposal indicates that with this norm they will try to “deal with pimping in all its formsto the locative third party and that they sanction those who resort to prostitution”. This was explained by the deputy general secretary of the party, Adriana Lastra.

From the Popular Party they assure that they will support this initiative because they maintain that it includes the proposals of the amendment that the socialist group presented to the law of the only yes is yes; specifically, the relating to tougher penalties for pimping. Those of Feijóo were in favor of supporting this modification in the norm. However, the PSOE ended up withdrawing the amendment.

The PSOE would not in fact need the support of its government partner to carry out the process, since it would reap 208 votes in favour. The abolitionist text presented by Lastra would modify the article 187 of the Penal Code so that pimping is “generally punished, without requiring an exploitative relationship”.

The PSOE defines itself as the “only” abolitionist party. Although most of the groups agree on persecuting sexual exploitation, there are differences regarding the ways of doing it. In United We Can, who have not yet confirmed whether they will support their partner’s proposal, there are two positions on how to address this issue: there is an abolitionist soul, but also another that defends a regulation that protects those women who engage in prostitution voluntarily .
