MADRID, 8 (EUROPE PRESS)
The Popular Party of Galicia will propose the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, as senator of autonomous designation after Juan Serrano presents his resignation from the position this Monday, May 9.
This has been advanced to Europa Press by PP sources, who have stressed that in this way “in the next few days” Feijóo’s departure from the Xunta de Galicia will be formalized and the process of his replacement in the PPdeG will be completed, as well as will trigger his arrival in the Upper House.
Within the framework of this renewal, Elena Muñoz is also expected to resign as senator by autonomous designation this Monday, and the person proposed to replace her in the exercise of said functions will be Miguel Tellado.
Before entering the Upper House, the Galician Parliament has to give Feijóo the green light. Likewise, the leader of the PP has to gather all the information required by the Senate, such as the declaration of activities, assets and income and economic interests.
Once these documents have been validated, he would acquire the full status of senator by abiding by the Constitution, which can be done before a notary or in plenary session. If it is done before a notary, the ‘popular’ leader would become a senator for all purposes before the plenary session, although, if done so, he could also repeat it during the plenary session.
In this way, Feijóo, elected leader of the PP at the beginning of April in the XX Congress of the formation, replacing Pablo Casado, will arrive at the Senate, where he will be able to confront the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, once a month in the best of the cases.
In addition, once elected senator, Feijóo will be appointed president of the Popular Group of the Congress and the Senate. Thus, he will be able to attend the great debates that are held in Congress and use its facilities and rooms to attend to the media.
However, it could only intervene in Congress if the PP presents a motion of censure against Pedro Sánchez and is the popular candidate, as Antonio Hernández Mancha did in March 1987 against the then Prime Minister Felipe González and that only helped to strengthen the socialist leader.
