The Polish Szymon Marciniak, referee of the World Cup final

FIFA announced this Thursday that the Polish referee Szymon Marciniak will direct the 2022 World Cup final between France and Argentina that will be played next Sunday (4:00 p.m.) at the Lusail stadium, thus becoming the first referee from his country to whistle a final. of the World Cup.

His compatriots Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz will serve as assistant referees, the American Ismail Elfath will be the fourth referee and the Polish Tomasz Kwiatkowski will be in the VOR room, as the head of the VAR in the match; the Venezuelan Juan Soto as assistant; the American Kyle Atkins as the offside manager; and the Mexican Fernando Guerrero in support tasks.

International since 2011, Marciniak already led France in a 2-1 win over Denmark in the group stage and also in Argentina’s 2-1 win against Australia in the round of 16. A UEFA referee and regular in the Champions League, the Pole already has experience in finals, after directing the 2018 European Super Cup between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid that was played in Tallinn.

As for national team football, he has refereed in all tournaments since Euro 2016, the first in which he participated. For his part, the Qatari Abdulrahman Al Jassim will be in charge of whistling the third and fourth place between Croatia and Morocco, which will be played next Saturday (4:00 p.m.) at the Khalifa International Stadium.
