MADRID, 18 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Kremlin has assured this Monday that the dynamics of the peace negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian parties to end the conflict in Ukraine “leave much to be desired”, while affirming that the invasion “is going according to plan”.
In statements to the press, collected by the Russian news agency Interfax, the spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dimitri Peskov, explained that the Ukrainian side “does not show special constancy” in the points agreed upon by the parties.
“The position changes often and, of course, the dynamics of progress in the negotiation process leaves much to be desired”, he indicated, although he assured that the “expert level” contacts in the framework of the negotiation process continue .
In this sense, and at the same time as these contacts, Peskov recalled that the “special military operation” –the Russian euphemism for the invasion– continues and, according to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, “is in accordance with plan”.
At the moment, there is no prospect that the delegations will meet in person to continue the dialogue. Last week, Peskov indicated that, in the event of a face-to-face meeting, Belarus would be the “preferred platform” for the meeting. Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky has repeatedly asked Putin to meet in person in the framework of the negotiations, something to which the Russian side has not yet agreed.
