The confirmation of the sentence of the ERE of Andalusia that condemns the former president Jose Antonio Grinan Prison has been one of the main issues to which the Government spokesperson minister had to respond on Tuesday, Elizabeth Rodriguez. Up to three times he has been asked about the issue at the usual press conference held after the Council of Ministers. Rodríguez has not wanted to go into the substance of the issue and has avoided talking about a possible pardon for Griñán. In addition, he has recalled that so far no “personal enrichment” of the former socialist leaders has been proven.
“We know of only one ruling. I prefer, out of rigor and respect, not to pronounce myself. The Government shows respect for all judicial decisions. We do not know the exact terms of this sentence and the meaning of the particular votes”, the spokesperson stated at first. She then recalled that until now, “all the judicial pronouncements conclude that there was no personal enrichment of the former presidents” .
Questioned again about the possibility of applying a pardon, she has reiterated that the Government “does not rule on hypotheses.” “The pardon process requires many previous procedures. We are advancing screens, it is not advisable to venture into hypotheses“, he insisted.
A few minutes before the appearance of Rodríguez, his partner in Moncloa, Pillar Joy, has highlighted that in this case “just pay for sinners”. In her first press conference as spokesperson for the Socialist Executive in Ferraz, the also Minister of Education stated that “Manuel Chaves y Griñán’s integrity reached the point of renouncing any public responsibility the same day his indictment became known”.
