Sergi Bruguera will not continue as Spanish Davis Cup coach

MADRID, Dec. 12 (.) –

The tennis player Sergi Bruguera will not continue as national coach of the Davis Cup team, as announced this Monday in a statement by the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET).

“Sergi Bruguera and the RFET, by mutual agreement, have decided to end the stage of the Spanish tennis player as coach of the MAPFRE Davis Cup national team,” he said in the note.

The RFET announced that its sports management “has already started conversations” with different candidates to occupy the position of captain of the Davis Cup national team, and expressed its gratitude to Sergi Bruguera for his work at the helm of the Spanish team since 2017.

The double champion of Roland Garros and silver at the Atlanta’96 Games leaves office after having won the first Davis Cup of the new format in November 2019 in Madrid.
