Sánchez congratulates Feijóo and recalls the “priority” of working with “unity and responsibility” in these times

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has congratulated the new leader of the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who has been elected in the extraordinary congress of the Popular Party with 98.35 percent of the votes and has recalled the “priority” of work with “unity and responsibility” in these “complex” times.

“Congratulations to Alberto Núñez Feijóo for his election as president of the Popular Party”, wrote the leader of the Executive in a message on the social network Twitter, collected by Europa Press, and in which he also recalled that “in these complex times, working with unity and responsibility for the common good of citizens must be a priority for all”.

The Galician baron has achieved overwhelming support in this conclave, the second to be held by primaries after the one on July 20 and 21, 2022 that raised Casado to the Presidency of the PP after beating Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría. Then, Casado won over Sáenz de Santamaría by obtaining 1,701 votes (57.2%), 451 more than the former Vice President of the Government.

The president of the XX Congress, Teófila Martínez, reported the result of the vote, specifying that the census of delegates with the right to vote amounted to 3,111. 2,670 votes have been cast and a total of 2,663 are valid (after seven invalid and 44 blank). For this reason, she has concluded that Feijóo’s candidacy has received 2,619 votes, 98.35% of the votes.
