The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and the acting President of the Government, Pedro Sanchezhave finished their meeting for the investiture of the candidate popularwhich has been extended for almost an hour.
The meeting, on which there was no expectation of agreement, began shortly after ten in the morning in a room in one of the extensions of the parliamentary buildings of the Congress of Deputies, which only photojournalists were able to access. .
Ha finished minutes before eleven o’clock in the morningand immediately the socialist general secretary has left the building in his official car heading to the PSOE headquarters on Calle Ferraz in Madrid, where the Federal Executive Commission meets.
In those moments of meeting, Ferraz reported that one of the proposals that Sánchez has brought to the meeting is the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).
Specifically, the leader of the Socialists has asked Feijóo to be whoever is invested as President of the Government by the Congress of Deputies, PP and PSOE formally commit to renew the CGPJ before December 31 of this year. The composition and mandate of the highest body of the judiciary has expired since 2018 and the PP has since blocked its renewal following the mandate of the Constitution.
The PP, for its part, has communicated that Feijóo has proposed to Sánchez a two-year term with the intention of avoiding a possible electoral repetition.
In front of the cameras, Feijóo and Sánchez greeted each other with a handshake and then took a seat on two chairs, with flags of Spain and the European Union behind, which served as the setting for their meeting.
This is Feijóo’s first meeting before the investiture debate on September 26 and 27, to which, if there are no last-minute changes and surprises, he will arrive without sufficient support to be elected president.
