Russia says military targets in Ukraine go ‘beyond’ Donbas

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrovassured this Wednesday that Russia’s military objectives in Ukraine “go beyond” the Donbas region, in the east of the country.

Thus, it has specified that these objectives are not limited to the east of the territory, which leaves the door open to advance towards other areas to continue invading Ukraine. “The geography is different now. It’s not just the republics of Donetsk Y Luganskare also the regions of Kherson and Zaporizhia and other territories,” he said.

“This process continues. It is constantly changing,” he asserted in statements collected by Russian news agencies after the advances made by Russian troops on the ground in recent weeks towards the areas of Severodonetskan attempt to reach Kramatorsk Y Slovyansk.

“We cannot allow that part of Ukraine controlled by Zelensky have weapons that endanger our territory”

In this sense, Lavrov has warned that if the West continues to deliver weapons to Ukraine capable of carrying out long-range attacks, such as the US’s HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, “Russia’s geographical targets will evolve.”

“Because we cannot allow part of Ukraine controlled by Volodymyr Zelensky or his successor has weapons that endanger our territory or that of the separatist republics, which have declared their independence and want to choose their own future,” he stressed.

The politician, in addition, has emphasized that the negotiations with the Government of Ukraine to achieve peace “are meaningless” in the current situation.
