Russia raises more than 850,000 refugees from Ukraine

The Russian authorities have estimated this Monday at more than 850,000 the number of people who have arrived in the country fleeing the war in Ukraine, most of them from the Donbas region (east), where the self-proclaimed Donetsk people’s republics are located. and Luhansk.

Official sources quoted by the Russian news agency TASS have indicated that “in total, more than 860,000 people, including more than 161,000 children, have arrived on the territory of Russia”, while adding that during the last day some 15,000 people have crossed the border.

Thus, they have detailed that among these people there are more than 237,000 Russians and more than 480,000 Ukrainians residing in the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, whose independence was recognized by Russian President Vladimir Putin days before launching the invasion.

On the other hand, the Russian authorities have assured that to date they have delivered more than 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, 6,500 of which have been received by residents of the aforementioned self-proclaimed republics, the epicenter of a conflict since 2014.

The Ukrainian authorities have accused Russia of carrying out forced population transfers from the territories it controls in the framework of the invasion that began on February 24 by order of Putin, although Moscow has rejected these accusations and has stressed that limited to facilitating the transfer of those who want to flee the war.
