Latest on the war in Ukraine
MADRID, Dec. 13 (.) –
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Riabkov, confirmed on Tuesday that he had proposed to the US authorities to agree on a maximum number of representatives from their respective diplomatic missions.
“We propose to stop and, for example, agree to set a certain ‘ceiling’ for personnel, within which we and the Americans could determine for ourselves how many people are needed in which area,” Riabkov said.
However, this proposal has not yet received any response from the US side, as the representative of Russian diplomacy has acknowledged in statements to the media, according to the Interfax agency.
Riabkov has stressed that, based on the sanctions imposed from Washington, Moscow must limit its diplomatic presence in the near future. “We are following the instructions of the (US) Administration, so a certain group of our employees will be forced to leave.”
Likewise, the vice minister recalled the “unjustified and inexplicable” decision of the United States to limit the maximum period of stay of Russian diplomatic representatives on business trips to US territory to three years.
“They (the United States) impose their own rules of the game in this area, we always respond according to the principle of ‘tit for tat’, not necessarily symmetrically,” Riabkov said, adding that if Washington complains about his little diplomatic presence in Moscow is his own fault.
