Russia intends to present its candidacy for the European Championships in 2028 and 2032

MADRID, March 23. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Russian Football Federation (RFU) intends to submit a bid to host the 2028 or 2032 editions of the European Football Championship, despite the fact that the country is currently banned at the sporting level due to its invasion of Ukraine.

“The RFU plans to submit offers to host the European Championship in 2028 and 2032 and this is not a joke,” Rustem Saimanov, a member of the federation’s Executive Board, told reporters in statements collected by the Russian news agency ‘TASS’.

The manager is clear that “life goes on” and that they are “ready and open”. “We must not close ourselves off from UEFA and FIFA. We have already organized numerous high-level tournaments and we will submit an offer. There is a lot of time, the situation will change and we will consider all the details thoroughly,” he stressed.

“We have already asked them to provide us with the relevant documents to study all the requirements and we are waiting for them,” added Samaino, also director general of Rubin Kazan, who believes that they would have good options for 2032.

UEFA plans to announce the final nominations in early April and will jointly designate the winners of these two editions. For now, Great Britain and Ireland and Turkey have shown their desire to host the EURO in 2028, while Italy would be interested in four years later.
