Russia and Ukraine resume negotiations but Mariupol evacuation fails again

The negotiations between Russia and Ukraine that aim to achieve a ceasefire in the conflict continued this Friday by videoconference. The talks continue three days after the first rapprochement of positions between the sides during the meeting held in Istanbul, but Russia assures that its positions on Crimea and Donbas they are “immovable”.

Russian chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky, He stressed that “for the first time in many years, the kyiv authorities have expressed their willingness to reach an agreement with Russia”. He was specifically referring to Ukraine’s resignation from joining NATO, from belonging to military blocs, from nuclear weapons and from possessing, acquiring or developing other weapons of mass destruction, and from hosting foreign military bases or contingents.

For his part, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyhas made his position clear by assuring that “there cannot be and will not be any compromise on sovereignty and territorial integrity”: “We will not cede anything. And we will fight for every meter of land, for every person,” he stated.

Russia accuses Ukraine of attacking its territory

Russia has accused Ukraine this Friday and for the first time since the beginning of the war of having attacked a fuel depot on its territory. Specifically, located on the outskirts of the Russian city of belgorod, 30 kilometers from the Russian-Ukrainian border.
