Robert Lewandowski brightens a transfer market in Spain without major movements

The arrival of the Pole, the only one that shakes, for the moment, a summer without big stars and with the leading role of FC Barcelona

MADRID, Aug. 8 (.) –

Barça’s Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has become, up to now, the most flashy player to come to LaLiga Santander this summer, in a market without major movements in which FC Barcelona has been the main protagonist thanks to the economic levers.

The azulgranas have outshone the work in arrivals of the rest of the teams in the competition and have returned the illusion to the entity and its fans, after a season spent without joy at Can Barça. Joan Laporta has managed to shake up a market that is still in full swing a few days before the start of LaLiga and that started calmly, only with the most notorious arrivals of Antonio Rüdiger and Aurélien Tchouaméni at Real Madrid.

Thus, the arrival of the Pole from Bayern Munich, in exchange for 45 million fixed euros and 5 in variables, has been the most important operation of the summer market in Spanish football, to become the visible head of a competition until now without clear references.

The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi left LaLiga Santander without leaders, and this added to the truncated arrival of Kylian Mbappé at Real Madrid, as well as the final choice of Erling Haaland by Macnhester City, make Lewandowski the new badge of the competition.

The Pole, who signed as a Barça player for the next four seasons, lands in Spain with his goleador endorsement -at least 40 goals on average since the 2015-2016 season- and with the world star poster, thanks to his 26 titles as a professional with Lech Poznan, Borussia and Bayern.

However, this has not been the only renowned signing in the Catalan entity, which also announced at the beginning of the summer the incorporation of the Brazilian Raphinha to give more speed, vertigo and dribbling to their attack. The player, from Leeds United, thus reinforces a dream forward, with up to two players per position for the trident of Xavi’s ‘new’ Barça.

The Catalan team has also been reinforced on the defensive side, perhaps the weakest of last season. Thus, with an Araújo who will presumably gain more and more stripes, Jules Koundé, from Sevilla, and Andreas Christensen, who arrived from Chelsea, underpin the Blaugrana defense. The signing of the Frenchman is also one of the most notorious, after his great season in Nervión and because his name was closely linked to that of Chelsea, which was left without him.

The FC Barcelona market is closed by two pieces for the culé midfield: Pablo Torre –in principle for Barça B– and the ex-Milan Franck Kessié. With fewer names, one because of his youth and the other because of his smaller poster in Europe, both will have to accept their more secondary role, but one that allows Xavi to expand his wardrobe, who will have to choose from many pieces to create his ideal ‘eleven’.

Real Madrid has also moved in the market, although to a lesser extent. At the beginning of June, the white entity announced its only two additions to date. The first, central defender Antonio Rüdiger, who had just finished his contract with Chelsea and will bring more level to a defense that already has Carvajal, Nacho, Militao, Alaba and Mendy. More hierarchy and forcefulness for the present of the white defense.

And the second arrival was that of the young midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, 22, from AS Monaco. The white club, for which he signs for the next six seasons, made a strong investment of confidence in the midfielder, called to be the substitute for Casemiro in the pivot, and within the policy of renewing the squad with young talent, joining to names like those of Camavinga, Valverde, Ceballos, Rodrygo or Vinicius.

With these only two additions made official by Real Madrid, one of his casualties, that of Francisco Alarcón ‘Isco’, became one of the most important arrivals for Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla this weekend. The Nervión club announced an agreement with the player from Malaga for the next two courses after ending his contract with the Chamartín entity on June 30. He is the second signing of the Seville team, which has already reinforced its defense with the Brazilian Marcao.

The also former Real Madrid player Take Kubo, 21, left the white discipline this summer to head to San Sebastián and sign with Real Sociedad. The Basque team thus continues to increase its quality in the offensive zone, after the arrival of Brais Méndez, from Celta.

Atlético de Madrid has experienced one of its meekest markets in recent years. Only the signing of the Belgian Axel Witsel made the rojiblanco summer happy, a midfielder with many ballots to be a starter with ‘Cholo’ Simeone, given his experience in Europe – he has played for Standard de Liège, Benfica, Zenit and Borussia Dortmund. With less cartel and more unknown in Spain, the Madrid entity signed the right back Nahuel Molina, a position that needed to be reinforced by all means.

Among the teams that suffered the most in the final part of the season to maintain the category, Getafe is one of the best strengthened. To the incorporation of the central player Domingos Duarte, a very outstanding player in his time at Granada and less known by the fans, was added last week the signing of Borja Mayoral until 2027. The forward, who already played in the Coliseum the second part of the Last year on loan from Real Madrid, he finds a stable project that will give him confidence to continue contributing on the scoring side.

For his part, it is also worth noting the arrival at RCD Mallorca of the Kosovar Vedat Muriqi, already as a player in property, after completing a remarkable campaign with the vermilion in 2021-2022 -4 goals in 15 games-. Also relevant are the signings of Joselu (Espanyol), Sergio Asenjo (Valladolid), Yangel Herrera (Girona), Miguel Gutiérrez (Girona), Valentín Castellanos (Girona) or the Argentine international Agustín Marchesín (Celta), in a market without great movements international.
