MADRID, July 19 (.) –

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, held a meeting on Tuesday in the Iranian capital, Tehran, where they discussed, among other issues, the export of wheat held in Ukrainian ports, although without reaching a final agreement

As Putin himself has acknowledged, the conversation has not served to completely resolve the differences regarding food exports, although he has valued Erdogan’s mediation.

“With your mediation, we have made progress. It is true that not all the problems have been resolved yet, but the fact that there are movements is already good,” Putin said after the meeting, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

Likewise, the Russian president thanked his Turkish counterpart for having proposed a “Turkish platform for negotiations” on food exports, alluding to the mechanism agreed between Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations last week after a meeting in four cushion in Istanbul.

For his part, Erdogan has acknowledged that he hopes the negotiations will be successful and has pointed to the need to continue the highest-level talks between the two presidents, according to the Interfax agency.

Erdogan and Putin are in Tehran these days to hold independent meetings with the Iranian authorities, including the country’s president, Ebrahim Raisi, and the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Jameini. After this, they will also hold a trilateral meeting to address the war in Syria and the situation in the region.
