Portugal adds more than 50,000 cases of coronavirus for the third consecutive day

Portugal has confirmed this Friday, for the third consecutive day, more than 50,000 cases of coronavirus, also being the day with the highest number of positives since the pandemic began in March 2020 with another 58,530 infections.

In total, there are already 2,118,125 cases recorded and 19,496 deaths related to the disease, another 49 more in the last 24 hours. However, this death toll is still far from the maximum recorded in January 2021, when the death of 303 people in a single day was recorded.

Regarding the situation of Portuguese hospitals, the General Directorate of Health (DGS) has reported 2,044 people admitted, forty more than the previous day, of which there are 162 in intensive care units.

Once again, the Lisbon and North regions continue to be the hardest hit by the pandemic, with 17,673 and 24,930 cases, respectively. Between the two they add up to 73 percent of the infections this Friday. Both also lead the list of deceased, with 19 and 14.

At this point in the pandemic, 79.1 percent of the people who have contracted the disease in Portugal have managed to recover, which represents a total of 1.67 million, while the mortality rate continues to decline and is already at the 0.92 percent.

The risk matrix has also been updated like every Friday, placing the country with a transmissibility index of 1.10, slightly lower than that of Wednesday, but with a somewhat higher incidence, now with 4,731.3 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants. fourteen days.
