Peru received 200 thousand requests for immigration permits and 94% were from Venezuelans

During the first week of November, the Peruvian authorities reported that in the last semester the immigration authorities of that country delivered 55,168 Temporary Permanence Permit cards, mainly to Venezuelans. On that date there were still more than 4,000 to be delivered


In six months, Peru received 214,633 applications to obtain the Temporary Permanence Permit that allows regularizing the immigration status of foreigners in the country and whose processing expired on Friday, November 10. As reported this Saturday the 11th by the National Superintendence of Migration, 94% of them correspond to Venezuelan citizens.

Another 2.4% of the requests were from Colombia; 0.9% from Cuba; 0.6% from Ecuador and 1.8% from other countries.

According to the information given by the agency, 72% of the applicants are adults, between 18 and 59 years old, while 15% are minors up to 10 years old. 10.5% are adolescents between 11 and 17 years old and the remaining 2.3% are adults over 60 years old.

So far, the highest percentage of applications has been processed in Lima, the capital of Peru, with 68%. They are followed by La Libertad (8.4%), Piura (4%) and Lambayeque (3.5%).

The president of the Council of Ministers of Peru, Alberto Otárola, reported that at the beginning of November that in the last six months the immigration authorities of that country delivered 55,168 Temporary Permanence Permit cards, mainly to Venezuelans.

On that date, according to official data, 4,973 temporary residence permits still had to be delivered.

This is part of the immigration regularization process in the Andean country.

Last May, the government of Peru also announced a period of six months for migrants residing in Peru to process this document.

According to the National Police, such a measure was initiated due to growing citizen insecurity. In addition, he highlighted the appearance of some criminal organizations whose leaders may be foreigners who entered the country illegally. That, in reference to members of the Tren de Aragua, a megaband of Venezuelan origin that has a presence in more than eight countries in the Americas.
