Pedri: “Xavi knows football like few others and we’re going to improve at his side”

BARCELONA, Jan. 28 (.) –

The FC Barcelona and Spanish national team player Pedro ‘Pedri’ González assured that working with Xavi Hernández in the Blaugrana team is a “pride” and a “privilege” for him, and predicted that they will improve a lot at his side because the de Terrassa knows football “like few others”.

“As a Barcelona player he is a pride; as a footballer, and a midfielder like me, a privilege. I did not know Xavi personally and, although I had no doubts, on a day-to-day basis he is showing that he knows football like few others”, he assured in statements in the first global edition of ‘GQ SPORTS’ collected by Europa Press.

In this sense, he added that he is clear that all the players are going to “learn and improve” alongside Xavi. “With him, and with the team he is putting together, we are going to have a lot of joy,” said the Canarian midfielder.

“I highlight his closeness and his ability to transmit what he sees and what he wants at all times. Tactically and technically he has always been a benchmark for any midfielder”, acknowledged, in this sense, a Pedri who recently recovered from an injury.

In addition, he also celebrated the atmosphere in the locker room, which is “very good.” “Not only among young people, but also with veterans. I, for example, get along very well with ‘Busi’. I would say that my best friends are Eric, Ansu and Ferran Torres,” she acknowledged.

Asked about his figure, about his weight in Barça and in the national team at 19 years old, he was honest: “I don’t think if I’m still a promise or not.” “For me, age is not important. The important thing is to keep growing and be important with Barça and with the national team, as I was last year”, he added.

“These months unemployed have helped me mature, to see what I have to work on and improve, and to realize that everything has gone very fast and I have been privileged. But, obviously, I don’t regret everything that has happened to me now. I wouldn’t change anything,” he said about his grueling first season in the elite.

On the other hand, he was grateful to his former teammate Leo Messi, now at French PSG. “I will always be grateful to Leo for helping me a lot both on the field and personally. Playing with him was very easy, he is the best in the world for a reason, and logically it has cost us to get used to not having him by our side”, he pointed out.

On a more personal level, he recognized that his life is football. “I am doing what I have always wanted, I had not considered other options, although logically my family and my people are just as important,” she said.

“As a good islander, I love the sea, which is also close to here, although it makes me very angry when I go to the beach and see the dirt there. I always try to pick up two or three pieces of garbage and throw them in the container. It doesn’t cost much a lot, and I think it’s fundamental. That’s why I collaborate as an ambassador with the Kick Out Plastic foundation,” he said, exercising in favor of the environmental fight.

Although, in fact, his life in Barcelona is “very quiet”. “When I don’t have to train, what I like the most is being at home watching series or playing board games, ping-pong or ‘Play’ with my brother. I still live with him, and my parents now visit us every often,” he added.
