MADRID, 17 Aug. (Portaltic/EP) –
Oracle has begun to review the algorithms of the social network TikTok to verify that they are not manipulated by the Chinese authorities and that the application operates independently in the United States.
Oracle became in 2020 the ByteDance technology provider -owner of TikTok- in the United States so that the Chinese company could continue operating in the North American country.
This agreement responded to an order from the US executive, which urged ByteDance to sell its operations in the country or leave it, arguing that TikTok was a threat to national security due to its ties to China and the privacy legislation of the country. asian country.
Following a new agreement, in June it was announced that TikTok would store the data of its US users by default in the cloud infrastructure of the US company (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure).
Now the American company has reached another agreement by which it can audit TikTok’s content moderation algorithms and models, as confirmed by a spokesperson to Axios.
This review began last week, according to the sources consulted by the aforementioned media, and with it Oracle intends to ensure that there is no manipulation by the Chinese authorities in the content that is highlighted.
Late last year, it emerged from an internal document that the TikTok algorithm is designed so that users spend time on the app browsing the videos that appear in the recommendations, also prioritizing those that are lucrative.
