Maria Diaz de la Cebosathe president of a private center where the commission agent and aristocrat Luis Medina studied, testified as a witness before Judge Adolfo Carretero last Monday for having been the one who facilitated the contact of the mayor’s cousin, Carlos Martínez-Almeida.
But the start of ‘pitch’ by Luis Medina and Alberto Luceño with public money is “irrelevant” for the anti-corruption prosecutor. “How those under investigation got to the town hall is not the subject of this case,” said prosecutor Luis Rodríguez Sol during Díaz de la Cebosa’s statement.
Public has been able to access that statement, in which you can see the interest of popular accusations (More Madrid, PSOE and Podemos) to try to connect the dots on how the business of Luceño and Medina de six million euros in commissions.
María Díaz de la Cebosa is president of the American University The College for International Studiesa private center in Madrid, where Luis Medina studied in the early 2000s, according to the witness, but without specifying whether he finished his Communication studies.
“He told me [Luis Medina] that it was very important to him, that he wanted to help,” said Díaz de la Cebosa, denying that the commission agent had communicated the huge business behind of your request for help so that the teacher could provide you with a contact at the Madrid City Council or in the Community of Madrid.
The peculiar style of Judge Adolfo Carretero when questioning prevented the witness from giving more information to the lawyers for the accusations about her relationship with Carlos Martínez-Almeida, lawyer and cousin of the mayor.
The relationship between the two comes from the organization Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, whose Spanish branch directs Díaz de la Cebosa. For the constitution of the entity, in 2018, the services of the Martínez-Almeida office were contracted.
“He called me in the month of March, when we were confined. He told me, knowing how the whole issue of sanitary material was, that he had mask merchandise and that he was looking for people to see how he could get to offer that material to the city council or to the Community; and to see if I could help in that process,” said Díaz de la Cebosa.
“I thought that Carlos Martínez-Almeida could have information on what the process was like to be able to get to the town hall; because I don’t know more people, if I had known someone in the Community of Madrid I would have done it,” the witness continued.
According to her statement, she asked the mayor’s cousin: “Do you know the email or what it could be so that I can make the offer?”, to which Martínez-Almeida replied: “Yes, there is an email that I know where All goods can arrive urgently”.
This Thursday he declared Carlos Martinez-Almeida and has denied that he spoke to his cousin on the subject. She has assured that, after a first conversation with the commissioner Luis Medina, he spoke with the general coordinator of the mayor’s office, Matilde Garcia Duartea personal friend of the mayor and of him, and that she provided him with her email from the town hall.
