“The United States could not ask for a better partner to work with than France.” US President Joe Biden welcomed his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to the White House on Thursday with great fanfare, saluting, in the language of Molière, the values of “liberty, equality and fraternity”.
Emmanuel Macron’s state visit should make it possible to solemnly seal Franco-American reconciliation after a diplomatic crisis, but also to address angry issues, such as American protectionism, or the war in Ukraine.
