Germany gives the green light to raise the minimum wage to 12 euros per hour

The Bundestag has approved raising the minimum wage to 12 euros per hour. Currently, it stands at 9.82 euros and will rise on July 1 to 10.45 euros, a figure that will remain until October 1st, when this new increase comes into effect. The measure was presented by the Labor Minister, the Social Democrat Hubertus Heil.

The proposal has received the support of the SPDgreen and liberal (PDF) and also from the leftist party Die Linke. Meanwhile, the conservative Democratic Union and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) and the extreme right formation Alternative for Germany (AfD) they have abstained.
