MADRID, Nov. 18 (Portaltic/EP) –
Peridot is he Niantic mobile game which encourages taking care of pets and living experiences in augmented reality, which has now incorporated generative artificial intelligence (AI) so that the relationship of these creatures with the real world is much more natural and unpredictable.
Peridots or dots are fantastical and colorful creatures that have the ability to “extraordinary” interaction with its environment. For example, if there is a tree in the space, they can climb it or, if there is water, they can swim and play with it. The same goes for dirt, grass, flowers or concrete. They are even capable of recognizing other animals.
Now, Niantic, responsible for this mobile game, has implemented generative AI so that they react in a much more natural way to objects in the real world, just as a flesh-and-blood pet would do, as announced on its official blog.
Specifically, it has used Meta’s Llama 2 language model and its own Lightship ARDK technology that, together, allow the dots to display unique and random reactions when encountering new objects, animals or surfacesgiving the impression that these virtual pets are learning and understanding the world around them.
This technology makes the reactions of the dots be more unpredictable. Thus, in the event that it encounters a real-world cat, the virtual creature may growl or bark at its presence, or even lunge after it. Or, in the case of leaving a plate of food visible, dots may eat the leftovers or even wallow in them.
