MADRID, Sep. 6 (Portaltic/EP) –
Fitbit has announced the expansion of irregular heart rhythm notifications to 20 new countries, including Spain, after being exclusive to some of its bracelet models in the United States.
Atrial fibrillation is a type of cardiac arrhythmia that occurs when the upper chambers beat out of sync with the lower chambers. It can increase the risk of blood clots, strokes and heart attacks, and palpitations and shortness of breath are among some of its symptoms.
The Fitbit app includes among its health monitoring features the identification of signs of atrial fibrillation (FA), which detects through the Electrocardiogram (ECG) application and the PPG algorithm, the analysis of heart rate variability and skin temperature, among other values.
Fitbit stresses that adults have a one in four risk of developing joint fibrillation from the age of 40. However, it has treatment, which is why it highlights that its early detection is important for the diagnosis of the patient, as stated on its website.
To do this, some models of its bracelet analyze the pulsations of its user at rest in search of possible signs of atrial fibrillation, that communicates to you through notifications.
Fitbit points out, however, that its technology is not infallible and that you can suffer from this pathology without being detected by your watches and activity bracelets, since there are asymptomatic cases. In any case, the company has expanded the scope of these irregular heartbeat notifications to 20 new countries, including Spain.
The firm emphasizes that this functionality is supported with the recently introduced Sense 2, Versa 4, and Inspire 3 models, as well as the Sense, Versa 2, 3, and Lite, Charge 3, 4, and 5, Luxe, and lastly, the Inspire 2.
THE ELECTROCARDIOGRAM FUNCTION, ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE
Fitbit has another method, which in this case requires the active participation of the user, to detect abnormalities in the heart. This is the Electrocardiogram function (ECG), which also evaluates possible cases of atrial fibrillation by measuring the electrical activity of this organ.
The group explains that ECG records these electrical signals and detects any signs of atrial fibrillation. In this case, this feature is only available on models feel 2 Y Charge 5 in a wide list of countries, among which is also Spain.
