FBI searches another Biden address in search of more classified documents

The Department of Justice is conducting a new search of a home in the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to try to find more classified documents. “Today, with the president’s full support and cooperation, the Department is conducting a planned search of his home in Rehoboth, Delaware,” the president’s attorney, Bob Bauer, said in a statement.

The search, which according to the media is being carried out fbi agents (an agency of the Department of Justice), is being done “in accordance with standard procedures” of the Department and “in the interest of operational security and integrity. Sought to do this work without prior public noticeand we agreed to cooperate,” added the lawyer.

Until now, no documents have been found at this address, but they have been found at Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, and in his private office in the Penn Biden Center think tank, in Washington. This month of January it was revealed that last November the president’s team had found secret papers from the time in which he was Vice President of Barack Obama (2009-2017) and in which he was a Senator (1973-2009).

Since then there have been several times that the US government has announced the discovery of more documents. On January 12, the Secretary of Justice, Merrick Garland, announced the appointment of a special prosecutor who will study all the classified papers found, conservative Robert Hur, who served between 2018 and 2021 as a prosecutor in Maryland at the proposal of the former president Donald Trump.

The former president is also under investigation by another special prosecutor for classified documents found at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. and for his possible involvement in the assault on the Capitol.

A few days ago, the discovery of documents in the house of former Vice President Mike Pence also came to light, a situation that, added to the papers found in the Trump mansion, forced the National Archives of the United States to ask all former presidents and former vice presidents of the country check your personal records in case they might contain confidential documents.

“The responsibility to abide by the Presidential Records Law -the regulation that obliges the delivery of all the documents of an administration to the National Archives- does not decrease when a government ends”, The National Archives explained in a letter.

Both the White House and Biden himself have insisted from the beginning on their total willingness to collaborate in these Justice Department investigations and have tried to disassociate themselves from the case of Trump. However, the scandal has called into question the management carried out by the current US Executive of supposedly protected material and has given wings to the republicans, that they have used the case to denounce double standards, after the accusations made last year against Trump for also keeping documents.
