The Women’s Institute presented this Thursday the campaign “The soft man“, which encourages men to think about masculinity in a “more committed, open and healthy” way. The video recovers the statements of the singer ‘El Fary’, who in 1984 made a famous allegation against this type of manhood.
“Every day we are more soft men building a healthier, stronger masculinity,” says the campaign video. In this way, the Women’s Institute celebrates “the great evolution that has taken place in Spanish society in the last 40 years”.
The Minister for Equality, Irene Monteropointed out in a colloquium during the presentation of the campaign that “if men do not get involved, we will not be able to put an end to gender violence or inequalities, even if we women are the protagonists”, in reference to the construction of a society feminist.
“Feminism is here to stay. Women are very aware that it is not a bed of roses. Many women have suffered a lot of violence to access our rights and now we demand a fair distribution of power, money, time, tasks…”, explained Montero at the beginning of the colloquium.
The minister called for “a new way of living and understanding the economy” and added that “this new way of living is much better for women, but not only, because there are more possibilities, more ways of being a woman or a man , which do not imply inequalities. This ministry also speaks to men. We are speaking to them when we make feminist policies”.
The colloquium was also attended by Angela Rodriguez Pamthe Secretary of State for Equality and against Gender Violence; Octavio Salazar, jurist and professor at the University of Córdoba (UCO); Y Paul Santosof the Other Time association.
This campaign is part of the Co-Responsible Plan, led by the secretariat of Ángela Rodríguez, to guarantee the right to care in Spain “from the perspective of equality between women and men”. With an endowment of 190 million euros, 84% of the funds are destined to create professional care bags.
