Education closes 2021 with the lowest dropout rate in history

The rate of early educational abandonment in Spain was reduced by 2.7 points to stand at 13.3% in 2021, the lowest since records exist. This is reflected in the data published by the EPA, which highlights that school dropout has been reduced by half in the last decade.

According to the survey carried out by the Statistics National Institute78.8% of the population between the ages of 20 and 24 have reached at least the second stage of Secondary Education, which is equivalent to 16.8 percentage points more than in 2011. While 48.7% of the students between the ages of 25 and 34 years has passed Higher Education, 1.3 points more than the previous year.

A coordinated commitment to Education

To reduce early school leaving rates, The Executive has reinforced the ‘Program for educational orientation, advancement and enrichment’ #PROA+which in 2022 will have an investment of 120 million euros for its implementation in 2,500 centers.

Likewise, at least a thousand units will be created for personal and family support and guidance for vulnerable students, for which an investment of 39 million euros has been planned.

As reported by the department he heads Pillar JoyIn 2021, 125 million were invested in the #PROA+ Program and 30 million in the creation of 618 support units.

Social exclusion leads to school dropout

The data also remind us of the gap generated by social inequality: 92.4% of students at risk of social exclusion have repeated a course. While 43% of them drop out of school early.

This information highlights the limited possibilities for integration when the starting point is poverty and exclusion. That is why the Government also launched, last October, a plan against child povertywhich included aid of 100 euros, more places in public schools and the possibility of extending maternity or paternity leave, and which had an investment of 779 million euros.
