Davidovich debuts with victory in Madrid and Martínez says goodbye

MADRID, May 2. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich has advanced to the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open, the fourth Masters 1,000 of the season and played on clay, after beating South African Lloyd Harris (7-5, 6-3) in his debut on Monday, while that Pedro Martínez has said goodbye after losing in three sets against the Australian Alex de Miñaur (7-6(2), 1-6, 6-3).

The man from Malaga, number 29 in the world and finalist of the Masters 1,000 in Monte Carlo, became the first Spaniard to win in the men’s main draw, all in a duel in which he annulled his first ‘break’ ball against and materialized a break in the twelfth game to win the first set.

Already in the second round, in which he did not face break chances, he used a new ‘break’ in the eighth game to put his victory on track after one hour and 19 minutes of play. Now, he will face in the second round the winner of the duel between the Pole Hubert Huzkacz and the Bolivian Hugo Dellien.

For his part, the Valencian Pedro Martínez said goodbye in his debut on the Madrid clay against De Miñaur, number 22 in the ATP ranking. An exchange of breakages meant that the first set had to be resolved in the ‘tie-break’, where the oceanic was more solvent. However, Alzira’s managed to balance the contest after allowing his rival to add only one game in the next set.

De Miñaur broke Martínez again in the fifth game of the second set, and, although Martínez responded with a ‘counterabreak’, he won the next three games to meet in the next round with the winner of the confrontation between the American Tommy Paul and Italian Jannik Sinner.
