On the occasion of marking 365 days until the start of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, the French Institute hosted the announcement of this major sports competition, which France will host for the first time, reports Anadolu.
At the announcement of the Paralympic Games, it was pointed out that the Paralympic movement is one of the fastest growing sports movements in the world.
Ratko Kovačić, president of the Croatian Paralympic Committee, announced that the Paralympic Games in Paris will be held from August 28 to September 8, 2024. The games will gather 4,400 athletes who will compete in 22 sports, and a total of 549 medals will be awarded.
The opening ceremony will be held in the very center of Paris, on the Place de la Concorde.
“Paralympic sport is better than ever, it is progressing day by day, it is getting better and more popular, and this is shown by the results achieved at the world and European level,” said Kovačić.
About 2.8 million tickets for spectators will go on sale, full stadiums and adequate media coverage of the competition, which will be held at attractive locations, including the Roland-Garros tennis stadium, are expected.
Lilas Bernheim, the first counselor of the French embassy in Croatia, pointed out that this is the first opportunity for France to host the Paralympic Games. She added that France will strive to contribute to the international fight against discrimination and inequality and to encourage young people to engage in sports activities.
Bernheim emphasized that the venues of the Paralympic Games will be mostly the same as those of the Olympic Games, giving this sporting event additional significance.
Three Croatian Paralympians who will perform at the upcoming Paralympic Games were presented to the media, namely Ivan Katančić, the gold medalist from Tokyo, then Matija Sloup and Paula Novina.
