The Congress hosts again this Tuesday a new institutional act for the Day of the Constitution when the 44th anniversary of the approval of the Magna Carta is fulfilled. In addition to the traditional absence of the pro-independence and nationalists from this type of event, this year no representative of the ultra-right will be present.
The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, has never participated in an act to commemorate the Constitution, as well as in most events that State institutions usually attend. Although, on previous occasions, the ultra force has been represented by its spokesperson in Congress, Ivan Espinosa de los Monterosor by his former general secretary in the Lower House and now dismissed from the party, macarena olona.
This year, Abascal has used the same argument as other years to motivate his absence, considering that the institutional act is “a mockery” and a “comic show” of the “progressive consensus.” In this way, neither he nor any of his colleagues will join “parties” with those who “violate and seek to destroy” the Magna Carta.
On the other hand, the nationalist and pro-independence groups and forces, most of them parliamentary allies of the Government, will not be at the institutional act in Carrera de San Jerónimo either. These are ERC, the PNV and EH Bildu, Junts, the PDeCaT, the CUP, Compromís and the Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG).
In addition to the presence of members of the PSOE, Unidas Podemos, PP and Cs, it is expected that the deputy of Más País-Verdes Equo, Inés Sabanés, as well as other representatives of the Canary Islands Coalition, UPN, the Regionalist Party of Cantabria, Asturias and Teruel Forum Exists.
The president of the Congress, Meritxell Batetwill deliver his speech on the steps of the Puerta de los Leones, accompanied by the President of the Senate, ander gilthe president of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, and the representatives of the high institutions of the State. On the stairway and to the sides of the lions will also be the members of the Tables of Congress and the Senate, the spokespersons of the parliamentary groups of both Chambers and the ministers.
Representatives of State institutions and the autonomous communities, the president of the majority opposition party, deputies and senators, former presidents of the Government and of the Chambers, constitutional speakers and a representation of social agents and civil society are also invited to the event. . Once the institutional act is over, the authorities and guests will go to the Conference Room, known as the Lost Steps Room, where a reception will take place.
Previously, the commemoration of the anniversary of the Magna Carta will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the solemn act of flag hoistingorganized by the Ministry of Defense and which this year, for the first time, will be held at Carrera de San Jerónimo.
