The director of the US intelligence services, William Burnsand his Russian counterpart, the head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence service (SVR) Sergei Naryshkinhave met this Monday in Turkey to discuss the growing nuclear risk and international tensions arising from the war in Ukraine.
The meeting took place within the communication channels that Russia and the US have open “on risk management”, especially the nuclear risk and the existing ones for strategic stability. However, as a US spokeswoman told Efe, there have been no “negotiations of any kind”.
Specifically, the official specified that “the settlement of the war in Ukraine is not being discussed. A message is being transmitted on the consequences of the use of nuclear weapons by Russia and the risks of escalation.” He has also added that “the cases of unjustly detained American citizens” will be raised in Russia.
