Now, the Prosecutor’s Office announces the start of an ex officio investigation against President Pedro Castillo and his wife. In his Twitter account, he pointed out that the process will be carried out for the alleged commission of the crimes of aggravated plagiarism, generic falsehood and improper collection.
In response, the Twitter account of the Presidency of Peru indicated Castillo’s position through a statement: “I deny any irregular act. The thesis work was validated with the respective educational quality standards. The investigation had an advisor and was sustained before the members of a qualifying jury who subsequently awarded me the corresponding degree”.
To defend himself, Castillo blames this complaint on the press: “Some communication media insist on tarnishing my honor and undermining the legitimacy that the Peruvian people granted me in a transparent and democratic election” and adds that “it is worrying that freedom of the press and expression lends itself to private and anti-democratic interests, building journalistic narratives, with the aim of generating political instability for this government and, consequently, for the country’s governability”.
It also points out that “the thesis document presented by the journalistic program lacks legitimacy because it does not have any record or stamp that confirms that it is official.” However, this was quickly denied by the university itself.
The UCV clarifies that the thesis delivered to the Panorama program is a reliable copy of the original that works in the Information Center of the university.
